Real work matters.
Kids can tell the difference between busywork and the real thing. We give them the real thing.
Brave Hands started with an educator who kept noticing the same thing: kids light up when they’re trusted with something real.
01 The founder
Raheem Harvey is an experienced educator and educational leader who has worked with children and school communities in the United States and internationally, including teaching in South Korea and China.
Years in education led him to think more deeply about how childhood is changing. Technology gives children tremendous opportunities, and Raheem sees real value in that. But he also noticed how few chances many kids get to do things like these:
Brave Hands is how he’s making more of those chances. It’s a place where a crooked cut isn’t a failure, just the next thing to figure out, and where kids leave knowing they did something hard themselves.
“I do not want kids to just be told they are capable. I want to give them opportunities to discover it for themselves.”
Raheem Harvey, Founder
Every Brave Hands experience draws on what years in education teach you: how kids learn, how they build confidence, and how to keep a room of young builders safe, focused, and proud of their work.
02 What we believe
Kids can tell the difference between busywork and the real thing. We give them the real thing.
Trying again is a skill. Every builder learns it, and every builder gets better because of it.
Kids learn how a tool works and how to use it with care before they use it on a project.
Technology belongs in kids’ lives. So do experiences that only hands can teach.
03 Where we’re starting
Brave Hands is beginning with four-week Builders Club experiences for kids ages 7 to 12 in the Baltimore, Maryland and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania areas, along with experiences for schools, community groups, camps, birthday parties, and private organizations.
Venue information will be announced as each cohort opens for registration.
We’re building this the way we teach kids to build: carefully, one solid piece at a time.
